Trying to get ready

Last year I participated in, and won, NaNoWriMo. I haven't touched my novel since though, and I know it is in desperate need of revision and probably quite a bit of rewriting. There are parts of it I want to change. There are parts of it that other people have suggested I change. The entire thing needs a serious editing because it was written under a state of emergency, which is great for getting it done, not so great for thorough thought.

I really want to write another novel this year, but I am having so much trouble coming up with an idea. This is bothering me, which is strange, because it shouldn't. Last year I didn't even have an idea until after everything was already started, why couldn't I do the same thing this year? Frankly, it's not that I can't, it's that I don't want to. That first week was so stressful trying to come up with an idea, and I spent the whole rest of the month trying to play catch-up with my word count. I even spent nearly all of Thanksgiving writing, which I know had to have peeved my family. Sorry gang.

So, anyone got any suggestions?

In the meantime, to try to get myself psyched up for NaNoWriMo this year, I have begun doing some prep work. Mostly it has to do with graphics and software stuff, stuff that I used to waste time last year. I figure by getting it out of the way early this year, I will be able to focus on the actual task at hand. For that purpose, I started a deviantart account and posted the calendar desktop wallpaper thingy I made on Saturday (which is why I didn't blog, I was busy and I forgot).

Congrats on the win! Wish I had a suggestion for ya for your book - I still have hopes to write a book one day, but the topic is yet still rattling around in there (my noggin), unearthed.

Hope it goes well!

I too have participate the last two years. I'm also feeling a little un inspired. Hope you find an idea.
